I’m a visual learner, and this was a huge help! I thought they were a great way to learn more about the reasoning behind specific answers and how to approach the vast variety of scenarios. Dr. Harris, I wanted to let you know that I found out today that I passed my oral boards! I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the UBP resources. I recently took the applied exam and ended up passing both the OSCE and SOE on my first try. This was an achievement for me personally as I have not done a single anesthesiology case since June 2019 (when I graduated residency at Northwestern). Since that time, I did a pain fellowship, worked in a university COVID clinic for 3 months, and now solely practice interventional pain. Naturally, when the applied exam was pushed back roughly a whole year due to COVID, I was very nervous due to a decaying knowledge base and general lack of hands on anesthesiology skills.

With that being said, I really feel that UBP is a one stop study material, at least for me. The fact that the basic concepts and management points come up again and again in the language peppered throughout every UBP book really helps solidify the knowledge.

I sincerely thank you once again for your books. I have never been more nervous nor have I studied harder for any other exam, largely due to the gap in practice. You made it possible for an anesthesiology resident to pass the applied exam on the first try essentially 21 months from practice. Now, I can focus on my job and enjoy my evenings.

My review of your AMAZING course has been long overdue! Let me start with a little background information. The anesthesia written exam was not hard for me; through college and medical school I did well on most written exams with little preparation. That said, I am not a public speaker and it took me 4 attempts to pass the SOE due in large part to studying for the orals the wrong way. I thought I could do it myself by studying lots of videos and books to get the knowledge down. On my 4th attempt, I decided to take the Ultimate Board Prep. The small group training session with Dr. George was the single most helpful piece of studying in all of my four years of oral board preparation. Without any condescension he explained to me that my problem was not the knowledge, but how I expressed it. In a nutshell I learned that I needed to practice talking with an examiner. This note is long overdue, but I just wanted to thank you for creating such a fantastic oral board prep course! Thanks to UBP, and UBP alone, I was able to pass my oral boards on the first try, over six years after finishing residency, even with a challenging stem and a very aggressive examiner. UBP was the only resource I used, largely due to time constraints but also because it was so high-yield and comprehensive, I didn’t feel I had to look to other sources.
The videos were also especially helpful in getting a good idea of how the actual exam would go, the tactics and demeanor of the examiners, and how to use techniques in real-time to concisely and clearly defend my answers. Plus, they were excellent in showing how to explain and defend answers I didn’t necessarily agree with in the written material, so I could see how to apply those skills if I was led down a path I didn’t like on the actual exam.
I was nervous on the exam day, yet I could still answer completely and concisely, navigate a challenging stem, predict many of the questions that were asked, not be thrown off by the changing paths and moving goal posts the examiners set up, and handle a more aggressive examiner and be more amused than rattled by his tactics. So, THANK YOU once again, UBP, for helping me finally become a board-certified anesthesiologist after a very long and winding road. It feels amazing and so freeing to finally be done.
