Anesthesiologist's We've HelpedDoes attending the Ultimate Board Prep course really make a difference? YES! But don’t take our word for it. Read some of the statements made by previous clients. "Yours is the only one that breaks down the answers, focuses on presentation style, and how to manage questions when the answer is unclear." "I am ecstatic to report that I passed the oral exam in Salt Lake City, 2011. I was literally down to my last attempt before going back to the ITE. I will say that the exam was pretty rigorous, fast-paced, difficult to predict, with an extensively detailed first case. I've taken all the usual courses offered for this exam, but yours is the only one that breaks down the answers, focuses on presentation style, and how to manage questions when the answer is unclear." -Dr. S. Chris Jacobs, 2011 "Your Approach was very effective." "I checked in the ABA online portal today and I PASSED the Anesthesia ORAL BOARD EXAM given at Salt Lake City. The ultimate board prep practice sets 1,2,3,4 were of tremendous help. I have already lost count of how many times I have read and tried to memorize the books. Your approach was very effective. I practiced and practiced the topics in the books so many, many times. I would definitely, highly recommend your review course." -Dr. Nepthalie Catameo, 2011 "This course is, by far, the Very Best out there." This course is, by far, the Very Best out there. It really does teach you how to organize your thoughts and express them in a "consultant-like-fashion". If you want to pass orals, you Must take this course." -Dr. Brian Allen, Salt Lake City 2011 "This course is Different! This course is Excellent!" I have gone to two separate courses, and found deficits in those courses due to lack of teaching. Other courses just intimidate and badger the oral board candidate without giving concrete feedback. This course is different! This course is excellent! The instructors discuss each case/problems in depth. In addition, The instructors emphasize specific strategies to display knowledge in a rapid effective manner. Best oral board review course I have attended so far! -Baltimore, MD 2011 "UBP does not use memorization or pneumonics, but teaches organization of knowledge and expands the depth of knowledge...." Dr. George and Dr. Smith are dedicated educators with the goal of helping each test taker individually based on his/her needs. UBP gave me a very thorough overview of the topics tested on boards and helped me to organize my thought process and pass the boards on the first try. UBP does not use memorization or pneumonics (which board examiners frown upon), but UBP teaches organization of knowledge and expands the depth of knowledge, and teaches how to speak quickly and knowledgeablely. Excellent course and excellent strategy! Thanks UBP for helping me pass the first time! -Kimberly Babiash, 2011 “They focus on communication and judgment skills. These are so hard to master, but Ultimate Board Prep focuses on these skills and I believe it is why I passed after 2 failures." Mike and Greg! Thank you guys so very much! I think I cried when I passed...I know my husband did! This was my third attempt at the oral boards. My husband gave up his job so that he could be with our four children while I did my residency and fellowship, so my income is the only income we have. We moved to a great group and thought we were finally done with the sacrifice until I failed the orals the first time. So, for the second time I studied harder and practiced with my group. I thougt we were done then I failed the second time. Then my group told me that they were going to let me go if I did not pass the third time. My buddy had gone to Ultimate Board Prep and told me that he really thought it helped. So I went to one course. It was awesome. It was small, it was personal, and the coaching that Dr. Smith and Dr. George gave me was incredible. When I first read one of the Ultimate Board Prep books that my buddy had...I thought "this is really a simple idea...I do not think I need to go to the course." He told me that I should go and I am so glad that I did. It was 4 days of practicing the Ultimate Board Prep techniques and doing one on one exams with OUTSTANDING feedback. It was not learning the material... I knew the information...but rather how to present it and how to answer questions that I did not know the answers. I met a few people from the course and we practiced every week for 4 months with the Ultimate Board Prep techniques. A month before the exam I was feeling good about my practice but I went to the last minute course in San Antonio and it really helped! I felt great about the communication and judgment skills that I learned. In fact my stem question was exactly what we had practiced and Dr. Smith had talked about. I could not believe it! All the key points and the pros and cons of my answers were right from the course! Then 2 of my extra topics were things we had just discussed at the course. I passed on my third attempt at the orals because of Ultimate Board Prep. I went to 2 courses and practiced weekly what they taught me. They focus on communication and judgment skills. These are so hard to master, but Ultimate Board Prep focuses on these skills and I believe it is why I passed after 2 failures. Thank you so much Ultimate Board Prep!!!! -AT, 2010 “There is NO WAY I would EVER have passed oral boards on first attempt, if not for your course.” Dear Dr. George, Thanks to you and Dr. Smith and the Ultimate Oral Board Prep course, I have passed oral boards on first attempt and am now a fully boarded anesthesiologist! I can definitively say that there is NO WAY I would EVER have passed oral boards on first attempt, if not for your course. When our class started, several people, including myself, were pretty shaky in their answers. However, as the time progressed, I felt myself becoming more and more confident and polished. I liked the well done syllabus, which not only gave test questions, but also explained how to take the oral exams, giving us the opportunity to hear and read answers formulated applying the techniques taught during the course. I also appreciated the excellent access and personal instruction from you and Dr. Smith. I found that the techniques I learned during the course helped me to consistently and confidently demonstrate knowledge, even when I didn’t know the answer to a specific question. - CP, April 2010 “Of all the anesthesia oral board prep courses I have attended, The UBP is the best by far.” After attending several courses and still failing the exam, I was extremely frustrated and unsure of what to do next. The organized curriculum offered at The UBP course combined with comprehensive discussions and feedback following each oral board exam prepared me for the oral boards like no other course I had taken. I easily passed the exam and just wish I had taken this course first! “I was faced with a very difficult stem AND a difficult examiner.” Attending the Ultimate Board Prep course 6 weeks prior to my oral examination gave me the opportunity to gain invaluable and useful critiques of my ability (or lack therof) in answering difficult questions effectively. I encountered an incredibly difficult stem question AND a difficult examiner and was able to recall specific advice given to me after my first mock oral exam at UBP. Using that advice, I turned an evolving downward spiral into a final victory and passed on my first attempt. I credit the Ultimate Board Prep with giving me the final "edge" on my preparation for the exam and wholeheartedly recommend their course to anyone determined to take orals only once! - JE, April 2009 “Despite all my preparation, I failed the first time!” My first attempt at passing the anesthesia oral boards was a complete disaster! I was not one of those new graduates who decided not to study and just take a shot at the oral boards. I spent countless hours pouring through review books. I coerced my partners into providing several mock exams and breezed through most of them. I also enrolled in one of the popular oral board training courses and felt I had done everything I could to prepare for the exam. But, despite all my efforts, I failed. Prior to the exam, I was given some bad advice about the oral boards. I was told that the oral boards were easy and I would have no problems. Worse, I was told, “Just answer the question. Don’t give a lot of extra information that they can use against you.” Little did I know, this was exactly the wrong approach to the orals. When asked a question, I kept my answers short and was very stingy with providing any extra information on the subject lest the examiners might “use it against me”. The examiners were forced to tediously (and painfully) extract any extra information with a multitude of questions. They became frustrated and the exam went down hill from there. The following year, I applied the techniques and strategies taught during The Ultimate Board Prep course, and the result was amazing. Applying these techniques helped me to proceed through the exam with confidence while, at the same time, avoiding frustrating the examiners. After my exam, the senior examiner stood up, shook my hand, and congratulated me…..something they are not supposed to do. I left that room knowing I had passed. This was in sharp contrast to the uneasy and slightly queasy feeling I was experiencing one year prior as I left a similar room. |
